What is OSCAR?
OSCAR stands for Out of School Care and Recreation.  OSCAR services are before school, after school and school holiday programmes for children aged 5-13 years or age.  These programmes are all similar in that they are largely recreational and that the care of the child is handed over from family/whanau to the supervisor of the programme.

What is the Northland OSCAR Network?
The Northland OSCAR Network is a response to family and community needs for a group to represent OSCAR services in Northland.

Unlike early childhood care there is no official or formal support for people who provide school age childcare and recreation.

The aim of the Northland OSCAR Network is to actively represent, promote, support and network, safe, quality, accesible before school, after school, and school holiday programmes throughout the Northland region, which centre around the needs of the child and its family.
